MCL production normal after Odisha villagers call off stir

Villagers of Bhalugadia in Odisha’s Angul district today called off their strike following Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL)’s assurance to provide jobs to 62 land losers’ families within one month.

Normalcy was restored in coal production after withdrawal of the strike.

The strike called by the villagers since Wednesday had paralysed all the projects and area offices of MCL impacting over two lakh tonnes of daily coal production and supply, MCL sources said.

The agitating villagers of Bhalugadia took the decision to withdraw their agitation at a meeting convened by Angul district collector Sachin Ramachandra Jadhav and attended by district SP Rajesh Pandit, MCL Chairman-cum- Managing Director A N Sahay and other senior officers.

Mining operations in the Talcher coalfields were totally paralysed on Wednesday after villagers forced a shut down at all the projects and area offices of MCL.
