Measures on anvil to improve functioning of Twin City police, says Odisha CM

Augmentation of manpower at the police station level, strengthening of the PCR system, revamping traffic management and use of technical and electronic gadgets in policing are some of the measures under active consideration of the Oodisha government to enable the Commissionerate Police to achieve the objectives for which it was established, said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here today. He was speaking on the occasion of the 8^th raising day of the Police Commissionerate, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack.

“A number of innovative initiatives have been taken to build up a people friendly image of the police. Steps like police-public interface, activation of senior citizens’ security cell, public awareness programmes for crime control, imparting training to each and every police personnel on improving behaviour  and attitude and reaching out to the people through an interactive website have instilled in the public a renewed faith and confidence,, said Patnaik lauding the Commissionerate Police.

Extending warm greetings to all the officers and men in Police Commissionerate on this occasion, the Chief Minister said since its inception, Commissionerate Police has been successfully rendering quality service to the citizen through prompt response in situations involving law and order. Quick detection of crimes, proactive measures for the prevention of offences have brought distinction to the organization, he said.

The Chief Minister pointed out that  Mahila Police Stations have been instrumental in encouraging women to approach the police with their grievances freely and fearlessly. The staff and officers are mandated to ensure that there is zero tolerance to any crime against women. The Pink Auto project, self defence training module for women and MAA-DHYA-M, the women support centres, are some of the important steps introduced for women’s safety and security, he added.

Patnaik said the traffic scenario of a city carries a significant bearing on the image of a city in its ability to manage growth. Despite a number of initiatives already taken to improve the traffic situation, there is need to work harder to spruce up the entire traffic management system.

Appreciating the Commissionerate Police for having already chalked out an action plan for effective policing, the Chief Minister said;”I do feel that a lot more needs to be done. This is the age of fast changing technology and the latest technology must be incorporated. I am told that the Commissionerate is in the process of installing CCTV cameras at important locations and activating the CCTNS project amongst other things”.

Earlier, the Chief Minister dedicated to the public a mobile application of the Commissionerate Police which would help the police in effectively reaching out to the masses by using the benefits of modern communication technology. He also released a new telephone directory of the Commissionerate Police on the occasion.
