Medical cadre reconstituted in Odisha, 4 specialists to be appointed in CHC

In a bid to improve the healthcare services in rural areas, Odisha government has reconstituted the medical cadre adding the number of directors to it and taking initiative to appoint four specialists at Community Health Centre (CHC) level.

With the move, the number of members in the medical board in health department has been raised to 6,719 from 5,389.

Earlier, there was a special secretary post was created in the health department. According to an official notification issued by the government yesterday, another special secretary post has been created. Two special secretaries will work separately for medical service and public health sectors.

Similarly, with the reconstitution of medical cadre, the number of director posts at Directorate of Health Services, Directorate of Public Health, Directorate of Nursing, Directorate of State Institute of Health & Family Welfare and Capital Hospital has been increased to 12. The director will be appointed each for Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH), State Bureau of Health Intelligence & Vital Statistics, Directorate of State Institute of Health & Family Welfare (SIHFW), Blood Security and Food Security.

The number of doctors under pay band-4 has been raised to 434 from 35. The decision has been taken to appoint four specialists (orthopedics, surgery, medicine and gynecology departments) at CHC level. The regular post has been created for the specialists and medical officers.

Further, the specialists and medical officers will be appointed for Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU), High Dependency Unit (HDU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), ICU, Urban Primary Health Centres and Urban Community Health Centres.

The CDMO and Public Health officer have been given the charge for health management of the concerned districts.

The government has decided to appoint district public health officers in the blocks. A superintendent CHC (group A) post has been created at CHC level. Total 578 posts have been created in public health sector in Odisha.
