Melanistic tiger found dead in Odisha’s Similipal; Infighting among tigers suspected

Baripada: A melanistic tiger was found dead in the core area of Odisha’s Similipal National Park, informed PCCF Sushil Kumar Popli today.

Though the reason behind the death of the male tiger was yet to be ascertained, it is being suspected that infighting among the big cats led to the death.

“We spotted the carcass of the melanistic tiger yesterday in the morning. Scratch mark was found on the body, which indicates infighting among tigers. The age of the tiger is estimated to be 3-3.5 years,” the official said.

“The exact cause of the death can be known after submission of the autopsy report,” he added.
