Melody singer gang raped in Odisha

The gang rape of a melody singer has sent shockwaves in Odisha’s Bhadrak district.

RAPEAccording to reports, the victim, a married woman of Bishnupur village under Dhamnagar police station of Bhadrak district is a singer and works as an artist of an opera party.

Though she was married since last three years, she was staying at her paternal house and eking out her living by performing in the opera party as an artist and singing in the melody parties.

On April 5, she was called up by two unknown youths to sing at a marriage procession at Kesharpur in the evening.

However, the two youths, instead of taking her to Kesharpur, took her to a room where she was confined and raped for 24 hours.

The victim, in a half-conscious state, managed to contact her family members with her mobile phone who rushed to the spot and rescued her on Thursday.

The father of the victim later lodged a complaint with the Bhadrak Rural Police Station.

Meanwhile, police have begun investigation into the incident.
