Mercury crosses 40 degree C at 22 places as Odisha bakes under heatwave

Bhubaneswar: Odisha continued to reel under intense heatwave condition as the mercury crossed 40 degree Celsius at 22 places across the state today.

The western Odisha town of Bolangir recorded the day’s highest maximum temperature of 43.3 degree C followed by Sambalpur (42.9), Jharsuguda (42.8), Sonepur and Bhubaneswar (both 42.6), Bargarh (42.4), Hirakud (42.1) and Baripada 42.0.

As many as eight places in Odisha recorded the maximum temperature in between 41 and 42 degree C. These places are Sundargarh, Talcher, Angul, Rourkela, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Boudh and Cuttack, said the IMD.

The maximum temperature was 40.7 at Chandbali, 40.6 at Kendrapara, 40.5 at Jajpur, 40.4 at Jagatsinghpur and 40 degree C at both Titlagarh and Nuapada, added the MeT department.

Four places in Odisha—Balasore, Nayagarh, Berhampur and Deogarh—recorded the maximum temperature in the range of 39-40 degree C.
