While mercury today touched 41 degrees in Malkangiri, Sonepur recorded 40.4 degree Celsius, Sambalpur 38.9, Bolangir 38.8, Bhawanipatna 38.5 and Bhubaneswar 37.8.

‘The temperature is already hovering around 40 degrees. This is only March and the real summer is yet to come. It is hard to even imagine how the condition is going to be over the next two months,” said Sunakar Kanhar, a resident of Malkangiri.

Condition is not much different in Angul and Talcher where the weather is not only hot but also humid.

“It is hard to get out of home after 10 AM. We have to carry water bottles and umbrella while coming to college. It’s terrible,” said a college going girl at Angul.

The meteorology department has predicted Nor’wester at some of the places at northern and coastal belt of the state. Some of the places of coastal Odisha might experience rainfall after March 25.

“There is a trough line from Assam till Telangana. It lies somewhere around the coastal belt till the south-west and north-west part of the state. These areas might experience Nor’wester,” said Sarat Chandra Sahu, Director of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.
