Mercury soars in Odisha; Baripada records 40 degree C

Bhubaneswar: Mercury begun to rise at various places in Odisha towards end of the Spring season with Baripada being recorded as the hottest place with a maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius today.

For the first time in Spring this year, the day temperature touched 40 degree Celsius in the state.

Besides, four places in Odisha stood at and above 39 degree Celsius by 2.30 pm today.

According to Regional Meteorological Centre of IMD, the maximum temperature was 39 degree C in Jharsuguda and Sambalpur and 39 degree C in Bhubaneswar and Chandbali in the afternoon.

Similarly, other places including Hirakud, Balasore, Keonjhar, Puri, Paradip and Gopalpur registered 37.6 degree C, 36.4 degree C, 36.2 degree C, 33.6 degree C, 33 degree C and 31.6 degree C respectively by 2.30 pm.

By 8.30 am, the state capital Bhubaneswar had recorded 31 degree C today.

The Bhubaneswar MeT predicted high temperature rise by 2 to 3 degree C during next 2-3 days at several places in Odisha under influence of dry and hot air coming from north-west direction.
