The low pressure area formed over north-west Bay of Bengal off Odisha-Gangetic West Bengal coasts is likely to result in heavy to very heavy rains accompanied by strong surface winds in many parts of the state in the next 48 hours, the Met department said today.

According to the meteorological centre in Bhubaneswar, rain and thundershower would occur at most places over Odisha, while heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur at one or two places over interior Odisha under the influence of the low pressure.

The met centre has also warned of very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the coastal region during the next 48 hours.

Surface wind speed reaching 35 to 45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, may prevail along and off the Odisha Coast. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea because of the strong wind flow and the rough sea condition.
