Mini stadium in every panchayat across Odisha soon

In a bid to promote sports and strengthen infrastructure, the Odisha government will build a mini stadium in every panchayat of the state, Sports and Youth Affairs minister Sudam Marandi informed the House today.

Replying to queries of the ruling party members, Marandi said efforts are on to popularise football and upgrade the sports infrastructure in the state.

“The government would construct a mini stadium each in every panchayat at a cost of Rs 5 lakh and in the future stadium will also be built at block level with an expenditure of Rs 25 lakh. For this, the Sports department will contribute Rs 20 lakh and the remaining Rs 5 lakh will be sourced from the MP and MLA LAD funds,” Marandi told the Assembly today.

The government is also providing monetary rewards to encourage youth to participate in sports, the minister said.

As Odisha’s Sundargarh is in the national hockey map, we are taking special measures to train the tribal youth with the help of expert coaches. Besides, we are also promoting other sports enthusiasts to take up sports, he added.
