Panchayati Raj Minister Kalpatararu Das today urged the Centre to provide an additional three lakh houses under the Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) and additional Rs 500 crore under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNRGES) for the benefit of the people affected by the recent cyclone and floods in the state, which have caused large scale damage of houses and loss of livelihood.

Das placed the demands during his meeting with Union Panchyati Raj Minister V Kishore Deo and Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh in New Delhi. Additional grants were needed to compensate for the devastation wrought by the twin calamities, he said.

The minister also requested Deo to urgently release the arrears due to the state under the Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) and Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Sasaktikaran Abhiyan (RGPSA).
