The deceased has been identified as Chandan Nayak (17) of Uthana Sahi of Kachapali village under Nuagan block in Nayagarh district.

According to family sources, the deceased was detected with jaundice 12 days ago. The family members had admitted him to Nuagan hospital. However, following the advice of the doctors, they had admitted him to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar where he died at about 3 AM on Wednesday.

Though a number of patients of Uthana Sahi have been affected by jaundice, neither the Nuagan hospital authorities and nor the district administration has no information about this.

It is alleged that the outbreak of the water borne disease has taken alarming proportions in the district as the concerned authorities have not taken any step to purify the drinking water supplied through the pipes.
