Mishap during Ratha Jatra in Odisha: One killed, 8 critical as chariot comes in contact with 11 KV wire
Balasore: Amid festivity across Odisha on the occasion of Ratha Jatra, a person died and eight others sustained critical injuries as a chariot came in contact with an 11 KV electric wire at Gudikhala mutt under Basta police limits in Balasore district, today.
According to reports, the mutt had organised the Ratha Jatra of deities, in which the locals participated.
While the devotees were pulling the chariot, its metallic portion came in contact with the high tension wire, leaving nine persons injured at the spot.
The victims were rescued and rushed to Basta hospital in an ambulance. However, one Anil Kumar Sahu of Agarpada village was declared dead at the healthcare facility.
Others were undergoing treatment at the hospital.
