Mishra drags Odisha minister, MP into chit fund scam

Balangir, Apr 11:

Just when the BJD had begun to breathe a little easy after the CBI appeared to have lossened the noose around its neck in the chit fund scam probe, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Odisha Assembly Narasingha Mishra on Saturday dropped a bombshell dragging a minister in the Naveen Patnaik government ‘from Kalahandi district’  and ‘a former minister from Balangir district now a member of parliament (MP)’ into the vortex of the mega scam without naming either of them.

Waiving a photograph showing the two ruling party leaders in the company of a top official of a chit fund company called ‘Vista’, Mishra said it raises legitimate suspicion about their involvement with the company that is doing business in the area even now.

“A chit fund company named ‘Vista’ is till date defrauding people of their money. The photograph suggests the involvement of some politicians in that scam. A minister in office from Kalahandi district and a former minister from Balangir, who is currently an MP, are seen in the photograph. This leads to deep suspicion of their involvement in the scam. I demand an immediate probe against them,” Mishra told the media at a press meet at Balangir today.

The concerned minister and the MP have, however, rubbished Mishra’s charges of their involvement with the chit fund company.

“We are public figures and attend many public functions; many people pose with us for photographs. That has no meaning. We are not involved in their ‘dhanda’ or any such business. The leader who has made such statement has proved that his frustration has exceeded all limits,” said Ananga Udaya Singhdeo, BJD Rajya Sabha MP.

“People invite us to attend several meetings or a function. That doesn’t mean that we are involved with the activities of that organization or firm. I never expected such meaningless and wild allegations from a person like him at least,” said Puspendra Singhdeo Minister Housing & Urban Development in his reactions to Mishra’s allegations.
