Police arrest three for killing youth in Niali

Bhubaneswar, Jan 22:

Commissionerate Police today arrested three persons including the main accused for killing a 35-year old youth from the city who had gone missing since Saturday.

The accused were identified as Biswakalyan Puspalak (26) of Madhaba village in Niali area of Cuttack district, Balaram Padhi of Lankapada village in Puri district and Chabi Mallick of Ratanpur village in Niali of Puri.niali murder

Police have registered a case (26/14) in this incident and have slapped murder (302) and disappearing of evidence (201) charges against the accused.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Bhubaneswar Nitinjeet Singh, the main accused Biswakalyan, a security guard working at Eagle Technology Resources (a software company), had killed the youth Gadadhar Behera who hails from Athantara of Balipatna in Khurda district late on January 17 night.

Gadadhar was also working in the same company as peon cum data entry operator, Singh said.

After acting on a missing report filed at Nayapalli Police station on 19 January this month by the brother of the deceased Muralidhar Behera that Gadadhar had not returned home after he left for office since January 17, the DCP said.

Biswakalyan had killed Gadadhar after hitting his head with a rod and then slitting the throat on January 17 night, the DCP revealed. The accused was infatutated with the wife of the deceased and had approached her a number of times only to be rebuffed every time.

“The accused killed him out of anger due to one-sided infatuation for  Gadadhar’s wife,” the DCP said establishing the reason behind the murder. Other significant details, if any, will be revealed after the autopsy report of the deceased comes from SCB Medical and Hospital, Cuttack, he added.

After killing Gadadhar, the accused called Balaram , a relative, and Chhabi , a driver, of his village the same day and took the body, which the accused had kept in a sack, to their village in an Indica car. In order to destroy all evidence of murder, they buried Gadadhar’s body behind Biswakalyan’s house in an 8 feet deep ditch.

“After exploring all angles and a thorough interrogation by Nayapalli police and special squad, we were able to recover Gadadhar’s body today from the backyard of the accused at Madhaba village and arrested the culprits. We have slapped murder and destruction of evidence charges against them,” said the DCP.

“We have also recovered the rod and the car bearing registration number OR 14M 5668 used in the murder case,” he added.
