Mission Shakti: Odisha Pushti Mahotsav creates awareness on nutrition security

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Pushti Mahotsav is being observed by the Odisha Livelihoods Mission (OLM), an autonomous society under the aegis of Department of Mission Shakti.

The programme, which commenced on December 4 and will conclude on December 10, is a celebration of diversity in food and agriculture produce in rural Odisha.

In this week-long event, around 25 lakh Self Help Group (SHG) members across 25,000 villages of Odisha will promote nutritional knowledge on locally grown and sourced nutritious produce and food. It will materialize into strengthening rural nutritional outcomes.

Odisha Pushti Mahotsav aims to create awareness about the importance of food & nutrition security and dietary diversity.

This Mahotsav will enable members of Women Self Help Groups (WSHGs) across 2,324 Gram Panchayats in 30 districts of Odisha to display their array of locally-grown farm produce.

This celebration is a medium of promotion and exhibition of nutritious dietary diversity abundantly available in the rural vicinities as well as generating a community dialogue in nutritional outcomes associated with diverse local food groups.

The exhibits of the festival will be garnered by WSHGs from their self-managed Nutrition Gardens (Mo Upakari Bagicha), farm lands, community waste lands, nearby forests and water bodies.

The event is not limited to just extending dietary diversity understanding, rather it is a celebration of traditional food systems and agricultural practices.
