Cellphone, narcotics seized from Odisha’s Choudwar jail

The commissionerate police conducted a surprise raid on the Circle Jail at Choudwar in Odisha’s Cuttack district and seized mobile phone and huge amount of narcotics today.

jailAccording to reports, a team of commissionerate police led by Cuttack DCP Sanjiv Arora with the IICs of nearby police stations and five platoons of armed police force raided the Circle Jail at about 4 AM today.

During the raid, the team seized a mobile phone, two chargers, one SIM card, cash worth Rs 11,000, several packets of bidi and cigarette, gutka and ganja from inside the jail premises.

Talking to the newsmen later, the DCP said the raid was a routine check-up.

“We will submit a detailed report about the raid to the State Police headquarters and the district administration,” he added.

It may be mentioned that the commissionerate police in the recent past had also seized mobile phones and narcotics from inside the jail premises during a raid which has confirmed the nexus between the jail staff and the under-trial prisoners.
