Mokshada Ekadashi Vrat Today, 3 December 2022: Time to Break Upvas/Fast, Significance, Tithi

Mokshada Ekadashi is also celebrated as Gita Jayanti. It falls on the ekadashi tithi of Shukla Paksha during the lunar month of Margashira.

It is believed that observer of Mokshada Ekadashi vrat achieves liberation or ‘Moksha’ from the cycle of birth and death.

Ekadashi Tithi Begins: December 03, 2022 5:39 AM.

Ekadashi Tithi Ends: December 04, 2022 5:34 AM.

Mokshada Ekadashi Rituals: Fasting is an important ritual of Mokshada Ekadashi. Devotees wake up early in the morning and take bath.

The fasting involves spending the day without eating or drinking anything. The fasting is done from the sunrise of Ekadashi tithi to sunrise of Dwadashi tithi.

Partial fasting by having milk, dairy products, fruits and other vegetarian foods is also allowed for those who are unable to keep a strict fast.

Consumption of rice, grains, pulses, onion and garlic is strictly prohibited during the vrat.

Devotees worship Lord Vishnu on this day to seek His divine blessings.  The Holy Bhagavad Gita is also worshipped on this occasion.

On the occasion of Mokshada Ekadashi, it is considered auspicious to read ‘Bhagavad Gita’, ‘Vishnu Sahasranamam’ and ‘Mukundashtakam’.
