Monsoon plays hide and seek with Odisha

Despite the onset of the south-west monsoon that hit the Odisha coast a week ago, there has been no appreciable rainfall in most parts the state though some places did receive light rains during the period.

The local Met office, in a release this evening, said though rain and thundershower are likely in some places in the next 24 hours, there is no significant change in the weather system in the state till next week up to June 30.

Talking to the media, director of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Dr Sarat Sahu said although the state has received 44 percent less rainfall in June, the rainfall in July is significant for kharif crop.

He, however, said some parts of the state would receive rainfall as the moisture level in the atmosphere has become high.

Meanwhile, sweltering heat prevailed in almost all parts of the state with a maximum relative humidity average of 77 percent.
