As the House assembled for the session, the ruling party members shouted slogans against the Centre and Chhattisgarh government over Mahanadi and Polavaram issues.

Unable to run the House, Speaker Niranjan Pujari adjourned the House till 3 PM.

Following the adjournment, the BJD MLAs staged a protest march from the Assembly to Raj Bhavan here to meet Governor SC Jamir. They submitted a memorandum to the Governor addressed to the President over the two issues.

On the other hand, Congress members alleged that the BJD legislators, especially Chandbali MLA Byomkesh Ray, started shouting slogans before the recitation of national anthem thereby disrespecting it.

“Disrespect towards national anthem is an unfortunate incident. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has violated constitutional guidelines. BJD MLAs have shown disrespect to national anthem at the behest of the CM. The Speaker didn’t take any action against the BJD members after the incident. The Speaker is not working impartially and acting like a party worker,” said Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra.

“Byomkesh Ray was not aware about the singing of national anthem before the commencement of the session. Whatever he did was unintentional,” said Nrusingha Charan Sahu, BJD’s Parjanga MLA.
