Monsoon subdued in Odisha; Rainfall likely in few districts this week

Bhubaneswar: The monsoon is in weak phase and rainfall has been subdued in Odisha registering only 181.3 mm in past one month.

According to Bhubaneswar MeT, the southwest monsoon has been subdued over Odisha. The trough at mean sea level now runs from North East Uttar Pradesh to northeast Assam across Bihar and Sub Himalayan West Bengal and extends upto 0.9 km above mean sea level.

Some districts are experiencing only thunderstorm. No monsoon rain in recent days as the seasonal wind has entered a weak phase, said Bhubaneswar MeT Director HR Biswas today.

Odisha registered only 181.3 mm rainfall between June 1 and 30 , which is 17% below the normal rainfall of 217.7 mm. While 14 districts — Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Balangir, Boudh, Nayagarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Mayurbhanj — recorded deficient rainfall by 20 to 59% than the normal rainfall during the period, only 4 districts — Puri, Cuttack, Kendrapara and Koraput — recorded excess rainfall by 20 to 59% in past one month. The remaining districts — Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Nuapada and Malkangiri — received normal rainfal during the period.

The weather scientist has predicted thunderstorm rain for next five days starting from today for several districts of Odisha.

Yellow warning: Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada.

Forecast: Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Odisha.

Yellow warning: 1.Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Angul, Cuttack.

2.Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri.
