Monthly stipend of house surgeons increased in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government has increased the monthly stipend of house surgeons from existing Rs 20,000 to Rs 28,000 with effect from January 1, 2021.

The enhancement will prevail for a period of three years.

The development came after house surgeons of Government medical college and hospitals across the state threatened to intensify their agitation if their demand for the same is not met.

“Considering the demand of House Surgeons’ Association and the views of Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) to this effect, the Government has been pleased to enhance the monthly stipend of house surgeons of the Government Medical Colleges of the state from Rs 20,000 to Rs 28,000 per month,” reads a letter from the Health and Family Welfare Department to DMET Director.

The expenditure to this effect will be met from the Budget provision made under appropriate Head of Account for respective Medical College and Hospitals, the letter reads.
