Moral turpitude case: Indulata writes to Odisha CM to expedite probe

Expressing her disappointment over the tardy progress made in the inquiry by the Odisha State Commission for Women (OSCW) in her complaint against her husband, Indulata Das, wife of senior bureaucrat Taradatt today wrote to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik seeking his intervention in the matter.

“The OSCW has been conducting an inquiry into my complaint since 2014. There has been no progress in the inquiry. I feel the Commission is deliberately delaying the process. Taradatt will be retiring on June 30; no action has been taken till date. It appears to me that the OSCW is functioning under pressure,” Das lamented speaking to reporters here today.

“The OSCW has now turned into a VIP Commission. It is only listening to VIPs, the Commissioner is not concerned about common people,” the top bureaucrat’s wife alleged.

Das said she had written a letter to the Chief Minister on December 5, 2014, informing him about her grievance.

“Later through RTI query, I came to know that Chief Minister has vested the inquiry with OSCW. Therefore, I wanted to inform him about the progress made in the inquiry and have written to him,” informed Das.

Contrary to Das’s allegations and accusations, Lopamudra Baxipatra, chairperson of OSCW said the Commission was doing all that is within its purview.

“She is aware of what action or progress that has taken place in the last one and half year. We have taken all steps that we were ought to take. We have taken every action that is within the purview of the OSCW. For me every case is sensitive,” said Baxipatra in her reactions to Das’s allegations.

Notably, Das had filed a written complaint with the Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell on December 5 in 2014 charging her husband with causing moral turpitude. She had also complained of a threat to her life and had sought police security.

It may be recalled that the Opposition had created a furore in the State Assembly in March in 2015 seeking a reply from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on steps taken to provide security to her.

The senior IAS officer allegedly has an extra-marital affair with a woman bureaucrat against whom allegations of compromising national security have been levelled earlier, Congress leader Tara Bahinipati had then claimed in the State Assembly.
