The mortal remains of eminent cardiologist, writer and orator Dr Kabi Prasad Mishra was consigned to flames at the Swargdwar crematorium here. Bibeka Prasad Mishra, the eldest son of the popular cardiologist lit the funeral pyre.
Family members, friends and well wishers accompanied Dr Mishra's body to the crematorium for the last rites
Notable among them was his close friend and former OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik.
Dr Mishra died following a massive heart attack on Saturday while he was addressing a gathering at the YMCA Cuttack for the launch of his book that he had co-authored with Ashalata Chouhan.
Dr Mishra's voice got choked and he collapsed on the dais. He was rushed to the Ashwini Hospital where he breathed his last at 10.30 pm. His body was then brought to the Apollo Hospital in the state capital. He was 77.
Dr Mishra was known for his remarkable expertise in cardiology and as a prominent ambassador of the Jagannath cult. His book “Baisi Pahacha”is considered his best literary work.
After securing his MBBS degree from the SCB Medical College in Cuttack, Dr Mishra got his FACC in 1979 from American College of Cardiology, US and then FRCP from Glasgow in 2005. He started his career in Cardiology in Chandigarh where he did his PG. Later, he was instrumental in opening the Cardiology department at the Ispat General Hospital(IGH) in Rourkela.
Dr Mishra's fame spread far and wide when he worked at the Apollo Hospital in Chennai. He was associated with the Kalinga Hospital here until his sad demise on Saturday.
