Mother-daughter duo killed in road mishap in Odisha

Balasore: A woman and her eight-year-old daughter died after a truck hit a motorcycle on which they were travelling at Panchupali under Baliapal police limits in Odisha’s Balasore district today.

According to reports, Jagannath Giri of Kadalibhanda village under Basta block of the district was returning home on a bike with his wife Basanti and their daughter this evening when a speeding sand-laden truck hit the two-wheeler.

While Basanti and the girl died on the spot after the accident, Jagannath sustained critical injuries and has been hospitalised. The driver of the truck fled the spot after the incident.

Tension gripped the spot after the road mishap as irate locals demanded arrest of the truck driver. On being informed, police reached the place and pacified them.
