Mother jumps into river with minor daughter in Odisha

Kendrapara: In a heart-rending incident, a young mother today committed suicide by jumping into Brahmani river along with her minor daughter in Odisha.

The incident occurred at Sorisada village under Aul police limits in the district.

The deceased have been identified as Chirasmita Das (32) and her daughter Palak (5).

Police rushed the spot being informed about the incident and recovered body of the mother-daughter duo.

Though police have started investigation into the incident, cause of the suicide is yet to be ascertained.

A mobile phone, a bag and one pair of shoes have been recovered from the spot.

Family dispute is suspected to be the reason behind the incident.

“Her husband used to assault her and had beaten her up last night which she had informed us over telephone. We assured her to arrive this morning but she had already committed suicide by the time we reached,” said Chirasmita’s brother.

Bodies have been sent for post mortem and medical reports will help in ascertaining cause of the death, informed a police official.
