Mother, son among three killed in two road mishaps in Odisha

Three persons, including a mother and son duo, were killed and three more were critically injured in two separate accidents in Sundargarh district of Odisha this evening.

The mother and son died at a private hospital while three others were admitted to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) here in a critical condition

At about 7.30 pm on Monday evening, the bike on which a youth was travelling with his mother was dashed by  Tata Magic vehicle carrying three persons coming from the opposite side at the NIT bypass road here, sources said.

The mother and son were rushed to the CWS hospital where they succumbed to their injuries during treatment. The three persons on the Tata Magic have been admitted to the ICU in IGH. Their condition is reported to be critical.

Police have seized both the vehicles. “The persons who got injured in the accident and were admitted in the hospital, are yet to be identified. We are now investigating the case,” said Sorojini Nayak, IIC, Sector-3 police station, Rourkela.

In another accident a little earlier, a 30-year-old youth died in a road accident at Koira police limits of Sundargarh district in Odisha on Monday evening.

Police have seized the truck and the bike from the spot. The driver of 10-wheeler truck fled from the spot immediately after the accident.

At about 6 pm on Monday evening, a young resident of  Raikela returning to his village from Koira on a bike was dashed by the 10-wheeler truck coming from opposite direction near the government weigh bridge at Koira. The youth fell off the bike under the impact of the dash and was critically injured.

Locals rushed the youth to Koira hospital and informed Koira police about the accident. The youth succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the hospital. The deceased has been identified as Bibhisana Naik (30).

Police are now searching the driver of ten wheeler.

“Efforts are on to nab the driver of ten wheeler truck. He will be arrested soon,” said HK Naik, IIC, Koira police station.
