Motilal link: Odisha Vigilance raids Happy Kar’s residence

Odisha Vigilance sleuths today conducted simultaneous raids at the residence of Himanshu Kar alias Happy and six other places over his alleged links with Dr Motilal Gouda who has been arrested in connection with the publication of a fake gazette notification.

The raids were conducted at Kar’s official quarters here, house at Jagamara in the city, parental house, in-laws’ house and residence of his two associates, sources said. Many important documents were seized during the raids, sources added.

“The raids were conducted to get information from Happy Kar regarding alleged amassing of properties disproportionate to known sources of income by him. This will help us in further investigation,” said Vigilance Director RP Sharma.

“I know Motilal Gouda as a doctor only. I have not done any financial transaction with him. The truth behind the incident will come out after investigation,” said Happy.

Kar, a Class III employee in Capital Hospital here, has been in news ever since photographs of him with Motilal appeared in the media. He allegedly worked as a mediator between politicians and Motilal.

It is worthwhile to mention here that a few days back, Motilal while being produced in a local court had told reporters that he knew Happy.

The Crime Branch had interrogated Happy earlier this month over his alleged links with Gouda. During the interrogation, Happy had reportedly placed some documents pertaining to bank transactions, contract dealings of his brother and wife before the Crime Branch for scrutiny.

A whopping Rs 2.5 crore balance in Happy’s bank account despite being a Class III employee in Capital Hospital had baffled the investigating agency.
