Murder convict gets death penalty

Jajpur, Mar 21:

The court of the Additional District Judge here today awarded death penalty to a Sudam Mallik, a murder convict of Naraharipur village of Binjharpur block, for killing his neighbour Niranjan Mallick on January 22, 2012.

According to prosecution, Sudam had made attempt to outrage the modesty of Niranjan’s wife while she was sleeping in her house at Naraharipur on January 7, 2012.

Although the woman managed to save herself by raising an alarm, Sudam had threatened her with dire consequence if she disclosed the matter to others.

But as she told the incident to her husband, an altercation ensued between between Niranjan and Sudam.

Enraged, Sudam barged into Niranjan’s house and attacked his son injuring him seriously on January 21.

The following day, Niranjan was killed by Sudam while the former was buying medicines for his injured son admitted to the district headquarters hospital.
