Briefing reporters here, Twin City Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr RP Sharma said businessman Pramod Routray alias Babuli (44) was killed by his wife Trupti Routray (26).

The body of Pramod, a resident of flat number 202 of the Konark Apartment in Cuttack Road area under the Laxmisagar police station in the city, was found on November 8.

Narrating the sequence of events leading to the murder based on the confessions of the arrested accused, Dr Sharma said the deceased had a strained marriage. Pramod, who was running an Indane Gas agency ‘Maa Mangala Gas Agency’ in Cuttack Road under Laxmisagar police limits, was allegedly a sex pervert, he added.

In the year 2003, Dr Sharma said, Pramod had forcibly married Trupti, who was barely 15 at the time. They were blessed with a male child, who is now eight years old. After a few months of the relation, the deceased had started torturing Trupti mentally and physically, the commissioner said.

During the investigation, Trupti revealed that the deceased was addicted to liquor and was a habitual womaniser. Trupti used to protest the philandering ways of Pramod, who tortured her mentally and physically. Later Pramod cast an evil eye on his wife’s younger sister. The deceased was so inhuman that one day he forced Trupti to share the bed with another person. Trupti could not bear this humiliation.

The incident made Trupti revengeful and she planned to eliminate Pramod from her life. On November 7, she administered 25 sleeping pills with protein juice to her unsuspecting husband. When he fell unconscious under the effect of the sleeping pills in the juice, Trupti strangled him to death with her chuni (scarf).

Soon after the murder, Trupti told her father Rajkishore Mohapatra and younger brother Mahesh Mohapatra about the incident. They covered Pramod’s body in a gunny bag and took it in a car to throw it away  in the Sialiaganja Nala near Deras.

The police seized the Ford car, chuni and other articles used in the murder from the accused after arresting them.

A case (no.- 101/14) has been registered in the incident by Chandaka police station, slapping charges under section 302 of IPC against the three accused.
