Patnaik was referring to the recent statements of Modi and Rahul that Odisha remained backward despite having rich mineral resources.

Patnaik termed both the Congress and the BJP  ‘migratory birds’ who visit the state only during elections and criticised them for ignoring the state’s interests for the rest of the time.

While addressing an election meeting here as part of his two day campaigning in Aska and Brahmapur parliamentary constituencies, Patnaik pointed fingers at the two major national parties and asked “Where were they when the cyclone Phailin hit the state?”

The BJD president said his government had all along laid emphasis on the development of the state.

“BJD is committed to the development of Odisha. We have no other agenda than development, ” he claimed.
