Work on railway infrastructure development featured big in the chief secretary's agenda today as the state government expects most of the pilgrims to arrive in Puri via railway during the Nabakalebar.

The Chief Secretary, along with senior railway officials and executives of the Odisha govenrment, travelled to Satyabadi and Malatipatapur stations of Puri district to inspect the progress of the doubling of the railway lines and construction of two more platforms.

“Some of the construction works are running behind schedule. But I have been assured that the shortfall would be made up by the end of February,” said Pati.

A foot overbridge is also under construction at Malatipatapur to ensure that the travellers don’t get stuck in traffic.

“The new foot overbridge will ensure that the passengers can reach the bus stop directly from the platform via the foot over-bridge," said Shankarshan Nayak, Chief Engineer of East Coast railway.

Pati also visited the new bus terminal, parking space and reviewed the progress of drainage and sewerage works in Puri.

Secretary of Energy Department, senior officials of the Sewerage Bboard, Collector and SP of Puri along with senior railway officers were in attendance in the review meeting.
