Naidu panel in Odisha’s Kandhamal; 14 to depose in 2008 riot case

The Justice AS Naidu Commission of Inquiry, probing the sensational communal riots in Odisha’s Kandhamal district in 2008, arrived at the district headquarters here today.

The Commission, during its three-day visit to the district, will record the statement of 14 witnesses at the Sadbhavna Hall at the collectorate.

The Commission was scheduled to record the statement of 15 witnesses. However, one of the witnesses has died in the meanwhile.

Till date, a total of 260 witnesses have deposed before the Commission while more than 90 witnesses will depose in the coming days.

Talking to the newsmen here, Justice Naidu said the Commission is hopeful of getting more information during the investigation. He, however, said his visit to the Chakapada Ashram next time might be his last tour to the district.
