Mishra on his last day of the two-day visit to the district visited the District Headquarters Hospital here to enquire about what circumstances led to the Dana Majhi incident where the tribal man had to shoulder his wife’s body for about 12 km.

“An individual cannot be blamed for the incident. It is the result of failure of the government and the system,” Narasingha Mishra said.

The senior leader held discussions with the hospital staff apart from meeting Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) in the aftermath of the disgusting incident which attracted widespread criticism from across the world.

“The hospital has several deficiencies including staff shortage. The posts of doctors are lying vacant and are being managed by temporary appointees,” he expressed.

Dana Majhi’s village Melghara and other remote areas need basic facilities like road connectivity, drinking water facility, electricity and education, he demanded.

The veteran politician was scheduled to visit Majhi’s village today. However, he had to cancel his trip in view of the 12th day rituals of the latter’s wife.

Former MP Bhakta Charan Das and other party leaders accompanied Mishra.
