Narrow escape for Odisha CM as BJP activist’s wife hurls eggs at him

Balasore: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik narrowly missed being hit by an egg thrown at him by a BJP activist’s wife while the former was inaugurating a festival here this afternoon.

The eggs flew past him and hit some people standing there before falling beside the podium.

The incident occurred while Naveen was inaugurating the 7th Talsari Beach Mahotsav in Bhograi block of the district.

Sources said the woman, identified as the wife of BJP activist Dilip Kamila, threw two eggs which hit some local leaders and people watching the programme near the podium.

The woman got enraged and came with eggs to spoil the event as her husband was picked up by police in the morning anticipating he might create law and order problems.

Soon after the incident, police swung into action and taken the woman to the nearest police station and is being interrogated.

Balasore Superintendent of Police (SP) Niti Sekhar said the woman brought the eggs in a bag and threw them from behind the barricade.

Meanwhile, the BJD condemned the incident and blamed the opposition for it.

“The act is condemnable. The opposition party is resorting to such hooliganism for being intolerant of the success of Naveen Patnaik,” said Jeevan Pradip Das, the BJD MLA from Balasore Sadar.

Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Lekhasri Samantsinghar alleged the woman was beaten mercilessly by police and BJD workers in the presence of the Chief Minister.

Local MLA and Higher Education Minister Anant Das, Tourism and Culture Minister Ashok Chandra Panda and Korei MLA Akash Das Nayak were also present in the event.

Notably, a group of Youth Congress members in February, 20154, broke through Naveen’s security cordon and threw eggs at his car while he was on his way to attend the annual day of the Utkal University Students’ Union.
