National Children’s Science Congress ends at Odisha’s KIIT International School

The 22nd State Level National Children’s Science Congress-2014, organized by the National Council for Science and Technology Communications of the Union Science and Technology department, concluded at the KIIT International School in Odisha’s capital city on November 10.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by the Nobel Laureate, Dr Ferid Murad in the presence of the founder, KIIT and KISS, Dr Achyuta Samanta, Dr RN. Ray, chairman, National Children’s Science Congress, chairperson of KIIT International School Dr Mona Lisa Bal and principal Sanjay Suar.
The theme chosen for this year was ‘Understanding Weather and Climate’.
Schools from different districts participated in the three-day annual event. About 400 projects were presented and evaluated by eminent jury and scientists.
At the end of the first day, the participating schools put up a colourful cultural show consisting of folk dance and music. The judges had an extremely challenging time with some of the country’s best projects.
Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Rourkela district that demonstrated the ‘Climate Impact: It’s Trend Analysis’ while Government Girl’s High School, Balangir district showcased ‘The Monsoon-Assessment in Madhyapalli Village’.
While the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) produced the ‘Solutions to Havoc of Climate Change on Staple Food of Coastal Odisha’, three projects—‘Reed to Seed’, ‘CO2 Reduction’ and ‘Innovative Way to Minimize E-Waste’—were presented by the KIIT International School.
On the second day, a poster exhibition was inaugurated by PP Mathur, vice chancellor of KIIT University.
The response to this exhibition was overwhelming with over 500 posters evaluated by the judges.
Out of 500 entries, eight were shortlisted of which the poster designed by Suprava Pradhan of the Government Girl’s High School, Baliguda was adjudged as the best.
