Bhubaneswar, Mar 7:
The fate of former minister Dr Kamala Das and two-time MLA from Balikuda Umesh Swain, who left the Congress party recently, now hangs in balance after they failed to wrest a commitment from Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo Naveen Patnaik on their re-entry into the party they had left.
The two leaders met Patnaik at Naveen Niwas today. But party sources said the BJD chief did not give any assurance on inducting them into the party.
According to party sources, the BJD president is reluctant to rope in Das who, had to first leave the government and then the party under a ‘shadow of corruption’. Having shown her the door, the party chief would now find it hard to justify her re-induction, they said.
The reason for the reluctance about taking in Swain, however, is a little different. His induction is sure to annoy sitting MLA from Balikuda Prasanta Muduli, who is eyeing a second staright term from the constituency.
