“When they (NDA) were in the opposition, they called the UPA government a spineless one while we were diplomatically tackling Chinese intrusion and Pakistan. But now, the situation on the India-China and India-Pakistan border is much grave,” he told IANS.

“Almost every day there is shelling by Pakistan and intrusion by China’s People Liberation Army into our (Indian) territory. Villagers residing near the border have to relocate themselves to army camps. During the UPA regime, there were such incidents but these were minimal and not an everyday affair,” he said.

Criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the former minister of state in the Prime Minister’s Office said: “The present NDA government has diplomatically failed to handle Pakistan and China.”

“He (Modi) invited Nawaz Sharif to attend his swearing-in ceremony and everybody saw the ultimate fallout on the border. The UPA was very clear while dealing with Pakistan … We kept pressure on them to hand over 26/11 plotter Hafiz Saeed and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim to India,” the Congress leader said.

Describing the government’s China policy as “lacklustre and uninspiring”, Narayanasamy said: “What can be more embarrassing than the fact that Chinese forces intrude into our territory when their President Xi Jinping is on an official visit to India and yet our prime minister extends protocol and spreads Gujarati dishes for him on the table.”
