Nearly 13 lakh people in Odisha missed COVID vaccine 2nd dose

Bhubaneswar: Amid fear for imminent third wave of pandemic in the country, nearly 13 lakh people have not received their second dose of COVID-19 vaccine in Odisha.

As many as 12,95,000 beneficiaries have missed second dose of Covid vaccine within the stipulated time, informed the State Health & Family Welfare Department today.

The Department is verifying as to why the beneficiaries were not administered the second dose even after exceeding the prescribed schedule.

The massive vaccination drive had begun on January 16 across the country. So far, 2,10,5,000 doses of COVID vaccines have been administered in Odisha, of which more than 50 lakh citizens have been fully vaccinated.

The State Government has set a target to vaccinate 3,9,85,000 people by December this year in fight against Covid-19.

According to experts, the third wave of Covid-19 is must in India.

Recently, a central panel of experts constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has submitted a report to the PMO warning that the possible third wave will reach its peak by late October this year.

The healthcare experts predict that the daily Covid cases may touch over 14,000 affecting children severely as adults as in the third wave.
