62,000 passengers booked for ticketless travel in last 5 months : ECoRly

61,53o train passengers have been booked  for travelling without or with improper tickets from April 2013 to August 2013 by the ticket checking squads of the East Coast Railways. The figure, according to an ECoRly press release is 9.28 thousand higher in number and 17.6% more in fine collection when compared to the corresponding period last year.

The release saidthe ticket checking squads have collected nearly Rs 2 crore 65 lakh from the ticketless travelers during the period which Rs 49 lakh more than amount collected ( 22.6% higher ) during the corresponding period last year.

These special ticket checking squads have been entrusted with the task of conducting surprise checks at different stations on different days over Khurda Road jurisdiction. Headed by a Chief Traffic Inspector (CTI) the squad conducts surprise checks in trains or by camping at a specific station with the help of Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF), the release said.

The ticket checking staff, however, have been instructed against rude behavior and asked to treat senior citizens and the elderly with respect.
