Nesting of Olive Ridley turtles begins along Puri coast in Odisha

The mass nesting of Olive Ridley turtles has begun at Debi Nasi along the Debi river confluence in the Astaranga area in Odisha’s Puri district.

According to reports, the forest staff have collected 158 eggs from one of the nests and kept them at a temporary incubation centre.

To protect the remaining eggs, the Forest department has set up 11 safe shelters in the area.

Besides, the department has also set up three temporary incubation centres in the nesting areas where the collected eggs would be hatched in 45 days after which the hatchlings would be released in the sea.
