Neurologists’ meet in city from Nov 10

The Odisha Neurology Association will organise a two-day conference here from Sunday.

Nearly 200 neurology specialists from different states including Prof Dr Kamaleswar Prasad of AIIMS and Prof Dr Atul Goyal of KEM Hospital, Mumbai would attend the event, said organising secretary Brig Prof Dr PK Sahoo and chief consultant in the department of Neurology, Apollo Hospitals, Bhubaneswar at a press briefing here on Friday.

The theme of the conference is “Epilepsy and Spine Surgery”.

The discussions will cover mostly clinical and treatment aspects of epilepsy. The speakers will cover therapy of spinal disorder from laminectomy to lumber disc surgery, Sahoo informed.

Stating that an estimated 1.5 per cent of population suffers from epilepsy and spine disorders in the country, with Odisha accounting for a fairly big number, Sahoo said the conference would contribute to creating awareness about the diseases among the people.

Since high standards of treatment on epilepsy and spinal disorders are now available in Odisha with number of hospitals in private sectors equipped with modern equipment to treat the diseases, the Odisha patients need not go outside for treatment, he said.
