Bhubaneswar, May 10:
Three days after being appointed as the Health Minister of Odisha, Pratap Jena today paid a surprise visit to Capital Hospital here to take stock of health services and found some doctors to be unavailable at the hospital.
“Doctors need to arrive at the hospital at right time and be available for patients. Some doctors were not available during my visit but we will not take any action against them today. They are requested to do their duties properly, failing which we will take appropriate action,” Jena said.
Dressed in casual wear, Jena visited various wards of the hospital and interacted with the patients about the services being provided to them.
However, some patients expressed displeasure over the health services at the hospital and alleged that they are being prescribed to buy costly medicines which are not available at the medicine store of the hospital, reports said.
He also enquired about presence of doctors and nurses at the hospital, free medicines to patients and cleanliness at the hospital.
“I wanted to know about the problems at the hospital for which I came here. We have to ensure that patients undergoing treatment at the hospital are provided with free medicines,” the minister said.
