Newborn girl buried alive, rescued in Odisha’s Sundargarh

Rourkela: A newborn girl was rescued by locals near Sanajharan under Tikayatpali police limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district this morning after they spotted the baby being buried at a forest with her face above the ground.

She was admitted to Bonai sub-divisional hospital, where her condition is stated to be stable.

A group of people had this morning gone to the forest to fetch wood. Hearing cries of the newborn, they rushed to the spot and rescued her.

Police have started investigation into the incident. Those involved in abandoning the baby girl are yet to be identified, a police official said.
