Newly-elected Jharsuguda MLA Dipali Das takes oath

Bhubaneswar: Newly-elected Jharsuguda MLA Dipali Das today took oath as legislator at the Odisha Legislative Assembly.

Deputy Speaker Rajnikant Singh administered her the oath of office and secrecy at his office chamber in the presence of ministers Pramila Mallik and Rita Sahu.

Earlier in the day, she reached the Assembly with her mother and brother.

Yesterday, she had met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik as the CM’s residence here and sought his blessings.

Dipali had successfully contested the Jharsuguda bypoll as a BJD candidate by defeating her nearest rival Tankadhar Tripathy of the BJP.

Dipali won the bypoll with a margin of 48,721 votes. BJD got 1,07,198 votes while the BJP polled 58,477 votes. Congress nominee Tarun Pandey lost his deposits with only 4,496 votes.

The bypoll was necessitated after the murder of the then sitting MLA and Dipali’s father Naba Kishore Das on January 29, this year.
