The National Green Tribunal (NGT) will hear arguments on forest clearance to the proposed Posco steel project in Paradip on September 2.

Though the state government completed the first phase of land acquisition for the said project over a month back, the commencement of project has shown little progress due to delay in revalidation of environment clearance by the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF).

While the ministry was asked by the NGT at its last hearing on August 12 to take a decision on revalidation of green clearance by August 23 to allow the South Korean steel major to start the construction work, it is yet to submit the necessary documents.

The ministry had granted environment clearance (EC) to Posco for a four-million-tonne-per-annum (MTPA) steel plant in July 2007 with a five-year validity.
