NH blocked in Odisha’s Ganjam over woman’s death in road mishap

Berhampur: Death of a woman in a road accident on National Highway-16 at Randha Chhak under Golanthara police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district today sparked tension as locals blocked road.

One Kanak Behera of Chikarada village was mowed down by a truck while she was crossing road this morning. She died on the spot.

Irate locals then blocked the road by burning tyres and demanded compensation for the family of the deceased. Many vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road due to the blockade.

Police have seized the truck and detained its driver for questioning. Further investigation into the incident is underway.

Residents of the area have been demanding construction of a flyover at Randha Chhak.
