The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will seek reports from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the Odisha government on the killing of five innocent persons including a two-year-old child in firing by security personnel during anti-Maoist operations on the night of July 8 in Kurtamgarh in Kandhamal district.

“We will seek reports from the Union Home Ministry and Odisha government under section 19 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 on the July 8 killing of five persons. We seek reports within two weeks,” informed NHRC secretary Satya Narayan Mohanty, who was here to attend a meeting at the state secretariat.
Earlier, Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) had also sought reports from the state government on the July 8 night killings in Kandhamal.
