Nigerian couple arrested in Delhi for duping Odisha man through honeytrap

Delhi/Balasore: Two weeks after Odisha police arrested a Nigerian in New Delhi on charges of duping a resident in Balasore district of Rs 30 lakh through a honeytrap, a Nigerian couple was nabbed from the national capital in connection with the case.

The accused couple was arrested from a house in Delhi today.

On August 11, the cyber wing of Balasore district police had arrested a Nigerian identified as Samson Imoko Alika in Delhi for allegedly extorting Rs 30 lakh from a man in Odisha’s Balasore district through honeytrap.

The accused was residing in Kishangarh area in Delhi. He was allegedly involved in duping people through fake social media accounts in name of foreign women.

The police had seized a mobile phone, one laptop and several SIM cards from possession of the accused man. He was brought to Balasore on remand for interrogation.

The Balasore Cyber Police had initiated probe into the case based on a complaint lodged by the victim in January this year.

As per the complaint, the man was honey-trapped and duped by a foreign woman on a social media platform.

The victim alleged that he came in contact with a woman from the United Kingdom (UK) on social media and exchanged text messages. She had sent a huge amounts of gifts including gold biscuits, costly watch and a smartphone. When the gifts reached Delhi airport, a person introducing himself as a custom officer, asked him to pay Rs 30 lakh to receive the gifts. He paid the same amount in installments but did not receive the consignment.
