No Bol Bam this year in Odisha for COVID-19 pandemic

Bhubaneswar:  In view of the COVID-19  situation in Odisha, the state Government today barred Bol Bam devotees from offering prayers at Shaivaite shrines across the state.

At a press briefing here, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena said no Bol Bom devotees devotees or Kanwariyas will be allowed to congregate, carry water from water bodies and walk on public roads to pour the sacred water on Shiva Lingas in the month of Shravan.

“In the Odia month of Shravan (July/August), Bol Bom devotees carry water from rivers, walk barefoot for several miles and pour the collected water on Shiva Linga in temples. The Kaudias start their journey on Saturday/ Sunday/ Monday by collecting the water and walk till Monday morning to pour the sacred  water on Shiva Linga. The entire activity has extensive potential of spreading COVID-1 9 pandemic”, said the SRC.

In the interest of public health, the state Government has ordered that the religious activities and congregations will remain prohibited and Kaudias are barred from participating in the entire process in the month of Shravan this year, Jena said.
